MINNEAPOLIS - The SMTA today announced Jeff Kennedy as its next president, succeeding Bill Barthel.

Kennedy is a technical director at Celestica, where he has worked for 13 years. He also spent five years in engineering and management at MSL and seven at Johnson-Matthey.

Sal Sparacino, manager of marketing and product management at Zestron Americas, was elected vice president of communications. Richard Henrick, a quality assurance/regulatory compliance manager at Sanmina, was re-elected secretary.

Also reappointed to the board's Strategic Development Committee were Matt Kelly, STSM technology director at IBM, and Martin Anselm, Ph.D., of the Rochester Institute of Technology.

They join SMTA board members Robert Kinyanjui, Ph.D., John Deere Electronic Solutions; Debbie Carboni, Kyzen; Eileen Hibbler, TEK Products; and Raiyomand Aspandiar, Ph.D., of Intel.

Other Strategic Development Committee members include Richard Coyle, Ph.D., Nokia; Tim Jensen, Indium and Scott Priore, Cisco.

Departing the SMTA board are president Bill Barthel of Plexus and VP communications Michelle Ogihara of Seika Machinery, who each served two year terms.
