WASHINGTON – Foxconn chairman Terry Gou is scheduled to meet US president Donald Trump here Thursday, according to published reports. Reasons for the meeting are unclear.

Gou reportedly met with Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner in February, say reports, but no details of the meeting were disclosed.

Foxconn recently bid up to $27 billion for Toshiba’s memory chip business, but sources close to the company say Foxconn isn’t likely to close the deal, with its substantial operations in China.

Trump has criticized Apple and suppliers like Foxconn for outsourcing to Asia, threatening high tariffs on Chinese imports.

In response earlier this year, Gou said Foxconn is considering constructing an automated TV panel plant in the US. However, in March a similar Foxconn facility broke ground in Guangzhou.

Foxconn reportedly never followed through on a 2013 promise to invest $30 million in Pennsylvania. Gou has criticized the US government’s ineptitude in dealing with investment interests.
