OLATHE, KS -- Elecsys today reported second fiscal quarter electronics manufacturing services sales plunged 21% from last year.

The EMS unit reported revenue of $2.99 million for the quarter ended Oct. 31, and sales are down 22% in its fiscal year-to-date.

Overall sales for the quarter ended Oct. 31 were $6.14 million, flat with last year. Operating income was $700,000, up from $483,000 a year ago, and net income was $413,000, up from $278,000.

The company said it believes EMS sales will grow modestly over the longer term based upon the current scheduled orders in backlog, the anticipated addition of new EMS customers, and renewed investment in sales and marketing that will focus on customers that can benefit from the company's proprietary technology solutions.

EMS unit backlogs helped boost the company's overall backlogs to $10.64 million, up 35%.
