LYNCHBURG, VA - Electronic Design and Manufacturing will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, June 27th at 2:00 pm to celebrate the completion of an 11,400 sq. ft. expansion of its manufacturing facility.

EDM has undertaken this expansion as part of a long-term business strategy to support growth in its existing customer business, as well as increase its capacity to support new customers seeking to onshore their outsourced electronics manufacturing.

“We are thrilled to announce the completion of our facility expansion,” said Bree Oldham, president and CEO of EDM, “The additional space is enabling us to better serve our box build customers with a combination of fixed and flexible final assembly work cells incorporating Lean manufacturing principles. We’ve also been able to expand our training facility and our training programs to ensure that our employee-owners have both core skills and access to continuing skills training. This investment reflects our commitment to excellence and our dedication to meeting our customer's evolving needs.”

The expansion is enabling EDM’s team to better customize its higher level assembly (HLA) operations to customer needs. Customers with higher volumes will continue to benefit from a fixed work cell arrangement. The flexible work cell area enables customers with lower volumes to benefit from a work cell arrangement optimized for quick changeovers.

The added space also includes a dedicated training center that enables employees to have hands-on learning via both remote and in-person trainers. EDM’s new Center for Excellence training area contains all the equipment needed to train employees on hand tools, soldering stations and ESD-safe mechanical assembly, plus online access to remote instruction via IPC’s Edge platform and/or remote IPC Certified Instructors (CITs). The Company is also working with GenEdge, a Virginia-based NIST Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) center, to train employees in Lean Manufacturing priniciples.
