EL SEGUNDO, CA - The top 10 EMS firms grew a combined 22% last year, to nearly $80 billion in sales, according to a report just released by iSuppli Corp.

Flextronics, the largest EMS firm, grew 20.1% to $16.1 billion. Hon Hai, again in second place, grew 30.6% to $14.7 billion.

Sanmina-SCI ($12.5 billion) jumped 20.5% to overtake Solectron ($11.6 billion, on 5.6% growth) for the number three spot. Celestica, up 31.3% to $8.8 billion, rounded out the top five.

Coming in sixth was Jabil, up 39% to $6.6 billion, the biggest percentage gain of the top 10 firms. Finland-based Elcoteq was up 32% to $3.9 billion.

Benchmark was eighth, up 8.9% to $2 billion, enabling it to pass Venture, which climbed 4.6% to $1.95 billion.

No. 10 was USI, at $1.6 billion, up 31.7%.

The results are based on 2004 calendar year results, iSuppli said.

Of the top 10 firms, six are North American based, two are from Taiwan (Hon Hai and USI), one from Singapore (Venture) and one from Finland (Elcoteq).
