GUADALAJARA, MEXICO – Jabil Circuit has reportedly opened its second production plant here, according to local reports. However, despite the report, by the
Guadalajara Reporter, the company has not made public statements about any expansions.
In fact, last week, on a conference call with analysts following the
close of its fiscal 2009 first quarter, Jabil did not mention the new
plant.
In response to a question about “near-shoring,” or the practice of
outsourcing product build to nearby geographies, Jabil CEO Tim Main
said, “We have two last mass production sites in Mexico, one in
Guadalajara and one in Chihuahua. We have I think the world's largest
aftermarket services operation in Reynosa. So we're pretty mature
there.” Calls to Jabil for comment have not yet been returned.
