HELSINKI -- Nokia Corp. became the second major telecom provider to announce plans to pull in certain assembly programs from its EMS partners.
A company spokesperson said the company has has stopped outsourcing the manufacture of its circuit boards.The firm continues to contract its packaging needs.
"It is true that at the moment we're not using subcontractors in the engine manufacturing (process of making mobile phones)," the spokesperson said, according to wire reports.
Last year, Nokia outsourced about 17% by volume of its cellphone assembly. Foxconn, BYD, Jabil and Elcoteq have been among Nokia's main EMS suppliers in recent years.
