Commerce revised the May orders to a 1.3% rise, down from the previously reported 1.8% increase.
Shipments of durables fell 0.2%, the 11th straight monthly decline. Inventories were down 0.9%.
Excluding transportation equipment, new orders rose 1.1% in June. Durable goods are defined as products expected to have a service life of three or more years.
For the month, non-defense aircraft orders slid 38.5%. Defense aircraft orders rose 30.1%. Non-aircraft defense orders were up 1.4%,
Year-to-date, total capital goods orders are down 28.8%, and non-defense capital goods orders are down 32.7%.
