EL SEGUNDO, CA -- Global LCD TV shipments rose 14.1% sequentially in the second quarter to 30.7 million units, iSuppli Corp. said.
New technology, such as LED backlights, coupled with price declines on older models boosted sales, the research firm said.

LG Electronics grew the fastest, with its share rising to 11.5%, up 60 basis points sequentially. Sharp was in third with a share of 9.6%, down from 10.1%. Sony was down a slot to fourth with a 9.1% share, down from 11.3%.
Shipments of LCD TVs with LED backlights could reach 4.5 million units this year, and 98.8 million by 2013, good for a 42.5% share, iSuppli said.
