ARLINGTON, VA – Worldwide electronic component orders took a slight upturn in August, while the 12-month average remained flat, according to a monthly survey of leading component manufacturers.

The monthly report is compiled by the Electronic Components Association

While welcomed by the industry, the upturn does not necessarily signal a rebound for the market, according to ECA president Bob Willis.

“I don’t think we can make any assumptions that this is the start of a comeback,” he said. “It’s more about manufacturers replenishing depleted inventories as demand for items such as PCs and cell phones caused some shortages.  We’ll need to watch over the next few months to see if positive trends are developing."
