SALO, FINLAND -- Nokia plans to furlough to 400 workers through 2010 at its Salo, Finland, despite predictions of a rebound in handset sales next year.

While Nokia remains the world's leading cellphone maker, it indicated the Salo plant remains below full capacity. The site primarily builds smartphones.

The company said 20% of the factory's 2,000 workers would be affected at any given time, and the job cuts would for up to 90 days.

Earlier this month, Nokia forecast overall cellphone volumes to grow around 10% next year, with smartphones outpacing the rest of the models.
