TAIPEI – EMS giant Hon Hai Group (Foxconn) said it would develop plant factories using solar energy and LED lamps in collaboration with College of Bioresources, Agriculture of National Taiwan University, and Yunlin County Government, say published reports.

Hon Hai reportedly wants to use its LED technologies to provide high-quality vegetables to some 400,000 staff members globally. Over time, the products would be available for outside consumers, according to CENS.com.

Group chairman Terry Gou is said to be working toward opening the first plant factory at NTU`s College of Bioresources and Agriculture.

Professors there say, while LED is known for energy conservation, it comes at a high price. The university will seek financial assistance to supplement the budget it has set aside for the project.
