TAIPEI -- Top 20 contract assembler Universal Scientific Industrial reported May revenues rose 21% from a year ago to NT$4.88 billion ($151 million).

Sales were up 4% from April, on higher demand for networking and communication products.

EMS related sales were up 1% for the month but down 20% from last year, to NT$1.08 billion. EMS makes up the firm's second-largest business unit.

Year to date, revenues (NT$24.07 billion) are up 30% year-over-year.

USI, which ranked 19th in the latest CIRCUITS ASSEMBLY Global Top 50, guided for higher sequential revenue in June, followed by a third-quarter lull. The company is being acquired by Advanced Semiconductor Engineering later this month.
