TORONTO -- Celestica plans to establish an R&D center near Taipei following years of lobbying, an emissary to Canada says.

The EMS company has designated a site in Taipei's Nangang District and will recruit 50 more R&D engineers for the operations, according to published reports.

Envoy to Canada David Tawei Lee says Taiwan spent three years intensely working to get Celestica's support for the project.

Celestica is the world's fourth largest contract electronics manufacturer.
