LAGUNA, PHILIPPINES -- Integrated Micro-Electronics Inc. today completed the previously announced acquisition of a majority stake in PSi Technologies Inc. (PSi).

The electronics manufacturing services provider bought 56% of PSi, an independent semiconductor assembly and test services (SATS) provider.

In a press release, IMI president and chief executive Arthur Tan said, “The acquisition of PSi gives us a foothold in the growing convergence of power semiconductor assembly and test services and EMS.”

“With a complementary capability to change the process of how a power semiconductor is built, we can now offer OEMs an optimized power solution in a multichip module that combines the manufacturing expertise of IMI and PSi," Tan said. "We can enhance our solution offering to our existing customers and serve emerging markets like electric vehicle, smart power, and smart sensor technologies.”

MCM technology addresses miniaturization trends in electronics devices. Global SATS revenue is expected to hit $20 billion by the third quarter next year, up from $18.5 billion in the current quarter, according to Gartner Dataquest.
