TAIWAN – Hon Hai Group (Foxconn) reported record sales of $8.18 billion for September on demand for consumer electronics such as iPads, iPhones and game consoles.
The firm’s sales were up 18% sequentially and a staggering 69.6% year-over-year. Sales for the first nine months of 2010 reached $52 billion, up 63% compared to the same period last year.
The news came just as the company was accused of making employees work excessive overtime -- sometimes more than twice allowed under China law.
Forecasts predict Hon Hai will become the first Taiwan-based conglomerate to reach $65 billion in annual sales by the end of the year.
Consumer electronics reportedly remains the strongest product line, with PCs second and communications third. Hon Hai is the only contract maker of Apple’s iPad.
