MANKATO, MN -- EMS firm Winland Electronics narrowed its third-quarter net loss to $305,000 for the period ended Sept. 30.

The company took a net loss of $695,000 in the year-ago quarter.

Net sales were $4.4 million, down 14.5% from the third quarter of 2009.

EMS sales for the quarter totaled $3.5 million, down 16.3% from last year. The company reported an operating loss of $86,000 in its EMS business, versus an operating loss of $227,000 in the comparable period in 2009.

Net sales for Winland’s Proprietary Products segment fell 6.3% to $838,000.

Sales to its three largest customers fell $1.24 million, the company said, due to component delays, program postponements, and reduced end-user demand
