WESTLAKE, OH -- Nordson reported record third-quarter sales, operating profit, net income on higher demand in each of its three business segments.
For the quarter ended July 31, sales rose 12% from last year to $312 million, although just five percentage points of the gain were attributable to product demand and the rest to currency translation. Operating profit rose 16% to $79 million, and operating margin rose to 25%. Net income was just 3.6% to $57 million.
Adhesive Dispensing Systems grew 13% year-over-year, Advanced Technology Systems' sales were up 8%, and Industrial Coating Systems jumped 17%. Backlogs at quarter's end were $176 million, up 20% from a year ago and 11% sequentially.
Nordson is the parent company of such printed circuit board manufacturing equipment makers as Asymtek, YesTech, MarchPlasma, Dage and EFD.
Nordson guided for third-quarter sales of $315 million to $327 million, which would be a nine to 13% gain over last year.
