TAIPEI -- Foxconn International Holdings chief executive Chin Wai Leung will resign effective Jan. 1, citing family demands.

The contract handset maker named Cheng Tien Chong to replace him. Cheng currently is executive director of Foxconn Technology Group, the parent company of FIH.

FIH has lost tens of millions over the past two years in the ruthlessly competitive cellphone manufacturing business.
