HUMLEBAEK, DENMARK -- IKEA is breaking into the consumer electronics market with a new line of A/V systems, Reuters is reporting.

IKEA will outsource certain design and manufacturing to ODM TCL Multimedia. Shenzhen-based TCL makes TVs, DVD and Blu-Ray players and set-top boxes for under the RCA, Thomson and other brands.

The new line will integrate television and theater-style sound systems and built-in media players in a line of furniture designed for IKEA.

IKEA is the world's largest furniture maker. This is its first attempt to market and sell electronics products, although it does have experience selling specially designed home appliances.
