JASPER, IN – Kimball International today reported fiscal 2012 third-quarter net sales of $284.4 million, down 9.6% year-over-year.
Net sales in the electronics manufacturing services segment declined 19% year-over-year to $161 million during the period. The decline in EMS sales was from the expiration of a contract with medical customer Bayer late in fiscal 2011. Kimball took a $45.7 million hit to net sales in the third quarter 2012 compared to the prior year.
The company’s net income was $2.5 million, down 24.2% compared to the third quarter of 2011.
“We saw solid earnings performance from our EMS segment during the third quarter, despite the 19% reduction in sales. Excluding non-operating items, this is the best quarterly net income performance from the EMS segment since the second quarter of fiscal year 2005,” said CEO and president James C. Thyen.
Kimball ranked 19th in the latest CIRCUITS ASSEMBLY Top 50.
