CHENGDU, CHINA -- A Foxconn Technology worker committed suicide by jumping from his off-campus apartment Wednesday, the company said today.

The unnamed 23-year-old worker had worked at Foxconn's plant here since last month, according to reports.

Over the past year, Foxconn has moved tens of thousands of workers from Shenzhen to Chengdu as it tries to capitalize on the lower labor rates in inland China while also accommodating the throngs of migrant workers who prefer to stay closer to their homes.
