WESTLAKE, OH -- Sales at Nordson's Advanced Technology Systems business unit climbed 39% year-over-year to $175.2 million for the period ended July 31.

For its fiscal third quarter, the unit's organic sales increased 33%, and acquisitions added 6%, the company said. Operating margin was 33%, up five percentage points from last year.

"Strong broad based demand for dispensing and test and inspection in electronics end markets, especially for mobile device applications, along with continued penetration of niche applications drove the increase," said Nordson president and chief executive Michael F. Hilton.

Nordson's adhesive dispensing segment saw sales rise 20.9% to $175.2 million. Operating profits were up 1.7% to $52.3 million. Operating margin in the segment was 30%.

Nordson is the parent company of Asymtek, YesTech, Dage and EFD, among others. It also recently acquired Sealant Engineering.

Overall, the company said third-quarter sales grew 22% to $380 million, 16% from organic demand. Operating profit rose 25% to $99 million, and the operating margin was 26%. Net income was up 17.5% to $67 million.

Quarterly sales, operating profit and net income all set company highs.

“Broad based demand across our business combined with the outstanding effort and execution of our global team resulted in another excellent quarter for Nordson,” Hilton said. “Organic sales volume was strong across all segments as customers continued to respond to our value proposition of best in class technology, application expertise and global support."

Nordson guided for fiscal fourth-quarter sales to rise 23 to 27% over 2011, of which 11 to 15% will be from higher organic demand.
