ZHENGZHOU, CHINA -- Foxconn Electronics has reportedly raised wages for employees at its campus here, according to published reports.

The wage hikes, which reportedly went into effect Aug. 1, apply to production line workers and management, boosted pay from 16% or more, the reports said.

The site is a huge one, with more than 150,000 employees, a number expected to climb to 200,000 by year-end.

New recruits saw their probation period cut from six months to three and monthly salaries rose to RMB1,800 ($283) from RMB1,550 during that period. Workers now get RMB2,000 after the probation period, and bonuses of RMB200 a month during peak periods.

With overtime, a worker can earn about $540 a month.

The Zhengzhou campus builds Apple iPads and iPhones.
