TAIYUAN, CHINA -- A Foxconn factory that had been closed following a Monday riot is now reopened, the company said.

About 40 persons received medical treatment following the fights, and an undisclosed number were arrested.

As many as 2,000 workers reportedly fought company guards and destroyed company property following a reported altercation between a guard and a worker. The melee lasted about four hours, according to several published reports. Foxconn has been downplaying the event in communications with the media, calling it an "incident." However, photos posted to China's version of Twitter showed, for example, an overturned guard outpost among the debris.

Foxconn employs some 79,000 workers at its Taiyuan factory, which makes metal casings for the Apple iPhone.
