BILLINGSTAD, NORWAY -- Kitron has received more than $12 million in orders from Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace for military communications equipment.

The contract has an initial value of NOK 70 million, with the possibility of another $3.5 million in add-on orders. Deliveries will take place in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

"Defense is one of our most important markets," said Jørgen Bredesen, chief executive of the contract printed circuit board assembly company. "This agreement confirms our competitiveness and strong position in this segment."

Kongsberg, a prime contractor for the Armed Forces Logistics Organisation, is producing radio equipment for use in vehicles and soldiers. Under its deal, Kitron will manufacture this equipment and provide related services.

Kitron's subsidiary in Arendal will manufacture the equipment.
