FENGCHENG, CHINA -- A Foxconn supplier that makes components for computers and cellphones has been racked by striking workers.

More than 1,000 workers reportedly went on strike Thursday at Jiangxi Xin Hai Yang Precision Components, Hon Hai has confirmed. Riot police were called in to combat surges of protesters who were clogging city streets, and various sites have posted pictures and a video.

Jiangxi Xin employs 5,500 workers and has a base salary of 1300 yuan ($207) a month, a sum that can double during the peak times, an international worker rights group said.
