SHENZHEN – A woman allegedly jumped off the roof of a Foxconn factory here last Friday morning at 9:00 AM local time, according to published reports. She is said to have survived the jump.

Three other employees reportedly were on the roof threatening to jump three hours later.

Foxconn installed safety nets at its sites years ago as a result of a number of workers committing suicide.

This latest attempt is said to have been a result of reduced orders to the company.

Published reports say Foxconn has been persuading some staff members to resign from the EMS firm to cut worker costs. Foxconn denies the claims.

Reports also claim the company has reduced wages and has begun to charge employees for services once free.

Apple, a large customer of Foxconn, recently stated 99% of its suppliers were in compliance with an imposed 60-hour workweek limit.
