HOUSTONBPM Microsystems has released a white paper explaining memory programming using device serialization.
Nader Shehad, a software engineering manager at the company, explains how modern serialization applications can use a more sophisticated approach to facilitate device programming with device-driven serialization.

DDS is a communication framework that permits the external serialization server to communicate bi-directionally with a device-specific programming algorithm running as part of the programming application. This permits the ESS to become part of the programming algorithm and extends the functionality of typical serialization techniques.

The free paper, “Advanced Device Serialization Using an External Serialization Server,” may be downloaded at http://www.bpmmicro.com.
