PENANG, MALAYSIA - Escatec has announced its membership in the United Nations Global Compact, a group of companies that voluntarily agree to support several human rights principles.

In a statement, the contract electronics manufacturer said it would support the 10 principles that cover human rights, labor standards, the environment and anti-corruption.

The Global Compact has over 10,000 corporate participants and other stakeholders from over 130 countries. It provides a practical framework for the development, implementation, and disclosure of sustainability policies and practices, offering participants workstreams, management tools and resources designed to help advance sustainable business models and markets.

Escatec called the decision "an extension of its core values."

"Joining the UN GC is a key part of our ongoing program of corporate responsibility," said Markus Walter, CEO. "The UN GC provides collaborative solutions to the most fundamental challenges facing both business and society and we are proud to become active members."

The firm added, "Escatec is committed to making the Global Compact and its principles part of the strategy, culture and day-to-day operations of the company, and to engaging in collaborative projects which advance the broader development goals of the United Nations, particularly the Millennium Development Goals that are also endorsed by the Malaysian government."
