ANGLETON, TX -- Benchmark Electronics said second-quarter net income fell 43% year-over-year as one-time restructuring charges took their toll.

For the period ended June 30, the contract manufacturing provider reported net income of $8 million, including restructuring and integration costs of $6 million primarily related to severance and asset impairment charges related to the closing of its Brazil manufacturing operations.

The electronics assembler said net revenue was $608 million, down 3.5% from last year and up 12% from the March quarter. The operating margin was 2.1%, down 80 basis points from a year ago. Cash flow from operations was approximately $11 million.

During the period, the company acquired fellow EMS company Suntron for $19 million.

"In the second quarter, we delivered strong performance with revenue and operating margins up sequentially from the first quarter of this year," said president and CEO Gayla J. Delly. "While the current macro environment provides limited visibility, we continue to see good long-term opportunities with new and existing customers. Our business development efforts resulted in another quarter of robust bookings, providing a solid foundation for continued growth."

For the period, inventory turns were 6.4 times compared to 6.3 at March 31, and 6 at June 30, 2012.
