DETROIT -- SAE International will host a free telephone/webcast on Oct. 10 to clear up misunderstandings among users and to explain differences between the organization’s standards governing counterfeits.

SAE charted the G-19 committee in 2007 to “address aspects of preventing, detecting, responding to and counteracting the threat of counterfeit electronic components.” Participants have included US government, defense and aerospace manufacturers, industry groups and testing laboratories. The results of their efforts are the publication of several SAE standards.

The SAE webinar will provide a brief overview of each of the standards (AS5553, AS6081, ARP6178, AS6171 [in draft]), including their scope and purpose and the intended certifications/accreditations. The latest update on the status of AS5553 and AS6081 certification will also be shared.
