GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- Aided by a state grant, Firstronic plans to add 110 workers over the next 30 months to its site here as part of a major expansion project. The contract electronics assembler this week learned it won a $300,000 grant to expand its 35,000 sq. ft. site.

It's a major staff increase for the EMS firm, which currently has 68 workers. About half of the new workers are expected to come aboard in the next year, CEO John Sammut said.

Firstronic projects growth could be "ten-fold" over the next several years as its products for the medical device and automotive markets are in high demand.
