HAWTHORNE, CA -- OSI Systems said strength at its Optoelectronics and Manufacturing division drove an overall 14% jump in sales year-over-year in its fiscal first quarter. Sales at the Optoelectronics and Manufacturing unit increased 25% on new programs and customers.

For the quarter ended Sept. 30, the company reported revenues of $206.3 million, up $24.6 million from fiscal 2013. Net income was $6.4 million, up slightly from $6.3 million a year ago. Excluding restructuring and other charges, net income would have been approximately $9.4 million in the current quarter.

As of Sept. 30, backlog was $1 billion, comparable to the June quarter. Cash flow from operations was $6.2 million. Capital expenditures for the period totaled $8 million.

OSI raised its revenue guidance for fiscal 2014 to $875 million to $905 million, up 9% to 13% over fiscal 2013.
