TORONTO -- SMTC has named Sushil Dhiman president and chief executive, effective Jan. 6. He supersedes interim president and CEO Larry Silber, who was named to the post in May following the departure of co-CEOs Alex Walker and Claude Germain.

Dhiman has over 25 years' experience in electronics manufacturing services, most recently as senior vice president of operations at Sanmina. He has run multi-site operations with revenues exceeding $500 million.

SMTC saw its sales jump to $296 million in 2012 from $220 million in 2011, but the ending of a few large programs have set the company back, and revenue through the September quarter was down 10% year-over-year.

Silber will remain on the EMS company's board.
