LONGVIEW, TX -- Flextronics will close its facility here by the end of March and lay off up to 80 workers, the company indicated this week. Programs at the site will be consolidated at other locations in the state. Some workers will be allowed to transfer, the firm said.

Flextronics has been trimming staff at the 78,000 sq. ft. Longview site for the past year. As recently as last September, it was reported there were some 200 workers in the Longview operation.

Flextronics also maintains manufacturing plants in Austin, Ft. Worth (Dallas) and Stafford (Houston).

Flextronics acquired the Longview site as part of its purchase of several Alcatel-Lucent manufacturing facilities.
