JUAREZ, MEXICO -- Plexus plans to close its manufacturing facility here by year-end and lay off up to 250 employees. The company, which is building a new site in Guadalajara, said it faced "ongoing challenges" to securing sufficient business for the Juarez plant.

The EMS company will take charges of $5.5 million to $7.5 million as result, $2.5 million to $3.1 million in cash for severance and retention bonuses, $2.7 million to $3.7 million in non-cash charges for asset impairment, and approximately $300,000 to $700,000 in cash payments for relocation and transition costs.

The Juarez facility closing will affect approximately 250 employees, Plexus said. Existing business in Juarez will be transferred to the new facility currently under construction in Guadalajara, with consolidation efforts completed by December.

The Juarez site is 262,787 sq. ft., almost the same size as the new site coming online in Guadalajara.
