WASHINGTON – Worldwide sales of semiconductors reached $28.1 billion in July, the industry’s highest-ever monthly sales total, said the Semiconductor Industry Association. Global sales for the month were up 2.4% sequentially and up 9.9% year-over-year, the trade group added.

Regionally, sales in the Americas increased 8.1% compared to last July, and Europe posted its strongest year-over-year growth (14.9%) since October 2010.

“The global semiconductor industry posted its highest-ever monthly sales in July and remains on track for a record year in 2014,” said Brian Toohey, president and CEO, SIA. “All regions posted both month-over-month and year-over-year increases for the third straight month – the first time that has happened in over four years – and sales increased in July across all semiconductor product categories.”
Regionally, year-over-year sales increased in Europe (14.9%), Asia Pacific (11.2%), the Americas (8.1%), and Japan (2%). Sales were up sequentially in the Americas (3%), Europe (2.9%), Asia Pacific (2.3%), and Japan (2%).

All monthly sales numbers are compiled by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics organization and represent a three-month moving average.
