WASHINGTON – A survey conducted in December found 76% of people who work or invest in technology say the best days of the US technology industry are still ahead, compared with 59% of the general public, according to published reports.

The Burson-Marsteller Age of Trump Technology Policy Survey included 1,000 respondents from the US general public and 500 people who work or invest in technology.

Fifty-nine percent of those in the technology sector who took the survey believe the Trump administration will benefit the technology industry, compared with 50% of the general public.

Seventy-three percent of those involved with technology believe the technology industry will contribute to job creation, compared to 63% of the general public. Seventy-three percent of tech elites believe innovation is critical to America's position in the global economy, with the industry headed in the right direction, compared with 59% of the general public.

The majority of both the general public (66%) and technology professionals (56%) believe the technology industry will do better in the next four years, but “only 50% of the general public say 'yes' when asked if Trump is a technology industry supporter, and this is only slightly higher among technology elites at 59%.”

Technologists were split 50/50 on whether Trump or Obama better understood the needs of technology firms. The general public favored Trump over Obama on this issue, with 58% in favor of the Trump administration.

Research firm Penn Schoen Berland (PSB) conducted the survey.
