GREENVILLE, SC -- Kemet Corp. today announced a definitive agreement to
purchase the tantalum capacitor business of
Epcos AG for $101.9 million. The deal is expected to close next spring, subject to standard closing conditions and receipt of required
regulatory approvals.
For the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, the Epcos business had revenue of about 88 million euros ($103.7 million).
The purchase includes the Epcos manufacturing operation in Evora, Portugal, and certain R&D, and marketing and sales functions located in various German
locations.
Kemet said the deal does not cover Epcos' Heidenheim,
Germany, manufacturing plant, but that Epcos will continue to
supply product from the plant to Kemet until later in 2006.
At that time, Kemet will purchase and relocate the equipment in Heidenheim to China.
