SIEVI, FINLAND -- Scanfil PLC, the second largest EMS group in the Nordic region, today announced manufacturing operations at its Oulu
plant will end this summer while those at its Äänekoski plant will be transferred to other
units by end of September. A total of 95 workers will be laid off.
Scanfil's EMS operations had 2006 sales of about 240 million euros.
"Since demand and production continue to concentrate on developing
markets, operations in Finland need to be adapted to take account
of the situation. The aim of the measures agreed on is to improve
and maintain Scanfil's profitability, cost-efficiency and
competitiveness in the rapidly changing contract manufacturing
market," the company said in a press release.
The restructuring is not expected to affect company earnings.
The company said its has begin measures to sell the Oulu and Äänekoski facilities.
The company said some of the affected employees would be offered work at the company's
other plants.
