Circuits Assembly Online Magazine - IPTE to Acquire Barco EMS

Kortrijk, Belgium – IPTE has signed a Letter of Intent to perhaps acquire the EMS activities of Barco Manufacturing Services. The surface-mount division for sale has sites in Belgium and the Czech Republic and employs approx. 400 people. The group generated 60 million Euro in sales last year.

IPTE is looking to expand its Connect Systems activities, while Barco had previously announced a strategy to not invest further in subcontracting activity.

No further details have been made public. Both parties expect a final decision regarding this transaction by the end of September 2006.

IPTE supplies production equipment and develops turnkey automation systems for the production, testing and treatment of PCBs and final assembly work, and is also active as a CM. For fiscal 2005, IPTE posted net sales of 127 million euro, (of which contract manufacturing accounted for 78 million euro.) The company employs over 1,300 people in Europe, the U.S. and Asia.
