WASHINGTON – The Portable Rechargeable Battery Association today said it “welcomes” an IPC effort to bring stakeholders into the process to develop a standard for the manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries.  
 
But the trade group also cautioned against duplicating longstanding efforts to set lithium-ion battery standards. 
 
According to PRBA, the IPC can benefit from current industry work on IEEE 1725, a standard for lithium-ion batteries used in cellular phones. In drafting any standard, PRBA emphasized that lithium-ion batteries must be considered as part of a whole, including how the batteries will be charged and discharged.
