BANGKOK – Cal-Comp Electronics is reimbursing some 10,000 workers who were illegally charged recruitment fees, according to reports. The repayments could total an estimated $10 million.
Thai recruitment agencies that supplied workers to Cal-Comp reportedly had demanded kickbacks from brokers in Myanmar. Workers paid, on average, $660, which is reportedly more than six times the legal limit there.
Pay slips showed Cal-Comp workers received repayments last month ranging from $395 to $560 in Thai baht.
