BENGALURU – Wistron’s iPhone manufacturing facility in India was reportedly ransacked over the weekend, causing up to NT$200 million (US$7.1 million) in damage.
According to Reuters, thousands of contract workers gathered at the factory Saturday demanding unpaid wages and better working hours. When police arrived, violence and vandalism ensued, according to reports.
Wistron estimates the losses at NT$100 million to NT$200 million.
The firm is working to get production started again at the plant.
Apple is investigating if Wistron disobeyed supplier guidelines and said it was sending staff and auditors to the site, while cooperating with police.
