WASHINGTON – The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) issued a statement in response to President Trump’s announcement of a proposed 100% tariff on computer chips. SIA president and CEO John Neuffer emphasized the importance of maintaining US competitiveness amid the industry's $630 billion investment across 28 states.

“We are eager to learn more about the President’s plan… including the scope and structure of exemptions for companies manufacturing in the US,” Neuffer said. He underscored that global trade is essential to preserving America’s semiconductor leadership and urged that tariff policy be aligned with cost-competitive manufacturing goals.

SIA reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the administration to develop trade frameworks that support long-term domestic leadership in chip production.
