WASHINGTON — The National Association of Manufacturers has pledged support for the Senate confirmation of U.S. Rep. Christopher Cox (R-CA), President Bush’s nominee to be the next chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission.

“Chris Cox is a great choice to lead the SEC,” declared NAM president John Engler.

“As a well-respected lawmaker in the House, and with previous career experience in corporate finance, Congressman Cox will provide the kind of dynamic leadership the SEC needs to work through various issues that influence our capital markets,” Engler said in a statement.

“We look forward to working with him as the SEC crafts guidance for companies required to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley, especially Section 404."
