TAIPEI -- Hon Hai Precision, which operates Foxconn, the second-largest electronics manufacturing services company, is pursuing an aggressive acquistion strategy, the company said this week.

The Taipei Times quoted Hon Hai chairman Terry Gou as saying, "We have been working on [more mergers]. We hope to settle one, or two deals in the second half of the year." Gou's comments were reportedly made after the company's annual shareholders' meeting.

Hon Hai is focusing on component companies, Gou reportedly said. "We won't buy notebook computer makers. We are targeting electronics component firms to further integrate with Hon Hai's core business of component manufacturing," the paper quoted him as saying.

The company last month bought Chi Mei Communication Systems, a maker of handsets.

Gou forecast the coming third quarter as "fair," with consumer electronics poised for the strongest growth, the Times reported. Gou said the fourth quarter is unclear at present.
