JAKARTA – Foxconn is disputing published reports that it has decided to forgo plans to invest in a facility here.

A daily paper had previously quoted the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry chairman as saying the electronics manufacturer had ceased investment plans because of land issues.

"We will continue to look at investment opportunities in Indonesia as we do in a number of other markets, and will provide updates only if the company has anything to announce regarding its investment plans," Foxconn is reported to have said.

Last year, the company said it may invest $1 billion in Indonesia.

Foxconn may be affected by a law that goes into effect in 2017, requiring smartphone companies in Indonesia to make 30% of their content locally.

The EMS/ODM has a history of announcing large expansion plans in countries outside Taiwan and China, only to withdraw or substantially reduce the actual investment.
