NEWPORT, ROGERSTONE, SOUTH WALES-- TT Electronics' contract assembly division reported sales fell 19.5% year-over-year to £48.7 million ($74.3 million) in 2014.

The pretax loss was £4.9 million, down from a profit of £604,000 in 2013.

The loss before one-time costs was £2.6 million.

The losses led to shutdowns and restructurings in multiple locations, including the closure of its EMS plant in Tonypandy, South Wales; and a reorganization at its Rogerstone site.

The company cited lower demand from defense and homeland security customers, plus sporadic demand from the industrial market.

The company also expanded its facility in Romania in order to add capacity in lower-cost areas.

TT Electronics' IMS division also operates in Fairford, Gloucestershire, UK; Romania, China and the US.
